About the Presenter: John Dowson

John has dedicated himself to serving the needs of the people with disabilities and their families with distinction since 1989. Whether as an advocate for changes to public policy or as a professional Special Needs Planner, John has passionately followed his calling to improve the quality of life for people with disabilities. John’s involvement lead to assisting the Ontario Government to introduce the Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) across the province, he gained approval that a segregated fund is an exempt asset under ODSP regulations. In 2006 he was an active contributor of the “New Beginnings Committee” creating The “Registered Disability Savings Plan” He has been instrumental in helping to shape provincial and federal policy that makes such planning possible, and literally hundreds of Ontario families have peace of mind that would not have been possible apart from John’s efforts. His stated goal is “That people with a disabled ought to live out their lives in dignity, sharing in all the essentials of life, and to have people look beyond their attitude and see them for who they are.
